Our Work in Mexico
The Abt Associates led-PSP-One project implemented behavior change and condom social marketing activities with high risk groups, specifically targeting Men who have Sex with Men (MSM), Female Sex Workers (FSW) and their clients, as well as truckers, migrants, prisoners, men in uniform, young adults, and people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). PSP-One activities also included launching VIVE condoms in Mexico and initiating commercial distribution, while placing special emphasis on non-traditional outlets in high-risk areas.
By the end of the project, PSP-One implemented 1,820 activities targeting MSM, CSM and their clients, as well as other high risk groups in southern and central Mexico. These activities were innovative and interactive, combining educational activities with clear information about HIV/AIDS prevention. As PSP-One made significant progress with its BCC programs, additional USAID funding was secured to continue these vital activities.
PSP-One’s condom social marketing activities began in November 2005, and the VIVE brand was positioned to appeal to both pharmacists and consumers, and focused on reaching a high-risk audience. The project worked to position and socially market the VIVE condom line in non-traditional outlets in high-risk areas to make condoms as accessible and socially acceptable as possible.
