COMPRI-A

USAID/Afghanistan has embarked on the process of developing a new 5-year mission strategic plan for the period of 2005 to 2010. This strategy was reviewed in USAID/Washington in April 2005.

The health portion of the strategy was developed with considerable input from NGOs, Ministry of Public Health and other local stakeholders in Afghanistan. This task order will support the achievement of Strategic Objective 3 in the mission Strategic Plan: A better educated and healthier population, and proposed Intermediate Result 3.1 “Increase access of women and children under the age of five to quality basic health services, especially in rural and under-served areas. There are four primary results that this project aims to achieve, including:

  • Expand access to quality Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS)
  • Improve the capacity of individuals and families to protect their health
  • Strengthen government health systems
  • Improve the capacity of the private sector to provide health products and services

The objective of the Communication for Behavior Change: Expanding Access to Private Sector Health Products and Services in Afghanistan (COMPRI-A) Project is to “Improve the capacity of the private sector to provide health products and services.” The expected outcomes from this sub-result include:

    1. Healthy behaviors of individuals, families and communities encouraged and sustained by Communication strategies and programs
    2. Availability of and access to reproductive health and child survival products and services to individuals, families and communities increased through the private sector
    3. Individuals and families demonstrate increased knowledge and use of reproductive health and child survival products
    4. Policies, partnerships and increased capacity in the public and private sectors create an improved environment for rational delivery of quality health services and products in the private sector.
