For Financial Institutions

The Banking on Health project partners with financial institutions in developing and emerging markets to promote health sector lending. In many countries, the health care sector is untapped and may be an interesting to new market for your financial institution. There are a number of global trends that are expanding role of the private health sector as a partner with public health systems, particularly in the provision of health care. These trends include health reform, new public and private health insurance opportunities and increased health expenditure.
The Banking on Health project can assist you to enter this new market. We train bank management and loan officers in health sector lending and analyzing the healthcare market. We work with bank staff to develop loan products that meet the financing needs of the health sector. We can provide market research and borrower referrals. We also work closely with USAID’s Development Credit Authority (DCA) guarantee program. If needed, we can structure a loan or portfolio guarantee to lower a financial institution’s risk in entering this new market.

Our financial partners can include commercial banks, microfinance institutions, credit unions and cooperatives, investment funds and leasing companies.
