Recent studies indicate that the populations most at risk for contracting HIV in Ethiopia are: commercial sex workers, their clients and the clients’ partners; girls ages 15–24 reporting sexual activity with more than one partner; separated/divorced individuals; pregnant women; men ages 25–50 engaging in crossgenerational sex; highly mobile workers; workers in a position of authority; young men having multiple sexual partners; uniformed service members; and men who have sex with men.

Extending Social Security Health Insurance to the Informal Sector

However; the PSP-One project participated in GHC's Auxiliary Event by hosting an Expert Panel, "The Private Sector: An Essential Resource for Community Health," where the respective panelists represented the private sector.

Does an Expansion in Private Sector Contraceptive Supply Increase Inequality in Modern Contraceptive Use?

Objective

To determine whether an expansion in private sector contraceptive supply is associated with increased socioeconomic inequality in the modern contraceptive prevalence rate.


Methods

Multiple rounds of Demographic and Health Surveys data were analyzed for five countries that experienced an increase in the private sector supply of contraceptives: Morocco, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Kenya, and Ghana.

Estigma y Discriminacion en los Servicios de Prueba de vih Con Orientacion en el Sector Privado en Guatemala: Un Estudio Cualitativo

El presente documento reporta los resultados del estudio cualitativo realizado en 2007 y 2008 por el proyecto PSP-One en tres departamentos de Guatemala (Guatemala, Izabal y Quetzaltenango), cuyos objetivos han sido:

  1. Describir los conocimientos y prácticas de los proveedores de clínicas y laboratorios privados sobre el VIH y los servicios de prueba de VIH con orientación (PVO).
  2. Identificar las características del estigma de los proveedores privados en relación a las mujeres trabajadoras sexuales (MTS), hombres que tienen sexo con hombres (HSH), las personas viviendo con VIH/SIDA (PVVS), y con respecto al VIH.
  3. Describir las experiencias de las MTS, HSH y PVVS en los servicios privados de PVO.

El estudio se orienta hacia la definición de acciones para el mejoramiento de los servicios de PVO, siendo este, la contraparte de un estudio similar realizado con usuarios y proveedores del sector público. El universo del estudio fue de 133 personas.

The Private Sector Programme in Health – PSP – is a collaborative research programme which started out with a Sida-funded project coordinated by the Division of International Health (IHCAR) at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden and the International Health Systems Program (IHSP), Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, USA.
