PSP-One Guatemala and the pharmaceutical company Biocross signing a memorandum of understandingOn February 8 2008, PSP-One Guatemala and the pharmaceutical company Biocross signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU), under which Biocross will make available its sales force to provide PSP-One with access to 2,100 private physicians throughout the country. Biocross is a Guatemalan company that distributes pharmaceutical products, including anti-retrovirals, from the Indian company Cipla in Central America, Panama, and South America. Under the MOU, PSP-One will use the Biocross sales force to reach private providers with information regarding HIV/AIDS and to recruit participants for its private provider trainings. Biocross will also cost share the training of its sales personnel, the production of informational materials on HIV/AIDS, and private provider trainings. The USAID/Guatemala Mission Director, Mr. Wayne Nilsestuen, and the President of the Guatemalan Medical Association, Dr. Mario López Castillo, witnessed the signing of the MOU, showing their support to this innovative partnership.

Shortly after the signing of the MOU, PSP-One and Biocross began the first activities under this partnership: PSP-One has trained the Biocross sales force, who will help disseminate a PSP-One training activity in late March. Biocross will also cost share and be present in this training. This partnership is part of PSP-One’s multi-pronged strategy to reach private physicians in Guatemala with information and training on HIV to improve the quality of the counseling and testing (CT) services they provide.
