PSP-One and the Guatemala Medical Association Partner to Fight HIV/AIDS

At the 50th annual Medical Association of Physicians and Surgeons’ Conference held from Nov 27-30 in Guatemala City, USAID funded Private Sector Partnership for Better Health Project (PSP-One) and the Guatemalan Medical Association of Physicians and Surgeons formalized their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding.

Six months ago, the two organizations recognized the mutually common goal of addressing HIV/AIDS through the private medical community. Subsequently, the Medical Association has been critical in helping the PSP-One project identify interested private providers and by including PSP-One sponsored activities in its regular calendar of activities. The MOU describes each one’s respective responsibilities; the Medical Association agreed to keep HIV/AID as a priority issue its agenda as well as offer multiple venues to train for private physicians in different aspects of HIV/AID prevention and treatment. PSP-One agreed to provide technical assistance, materials and resources to design and carry out private provider trainings. To introduce the session in which the MOU was at the 50th Medical Association Conference, the President of the Medical Association, Dr. Mario Cordon, expressed the Medical Association’s commitment to addressing HIV/AIDS and promised the Association will work diligently with private providers to provide them the skills and tools to deliver quality to HIV/AIDS counseling and testing.
