The Abt Associates led-PSP Women's Health Project in Jordan has developed a successful Quality Assurance program to standardize and provide clinical guidelines for Family Planning (FP), Clinical Breast Exam (CBE) and most recently, Reproductive Tract Infections and Sexually Transmitted Infections (RTIs/STIs) for private physicians. This program is aimed at female physicians in the private sector in Jordan: General Practitioners, Family Doctors and Obstetrics and Gynecologists who are responsible for the care of women.

With PSP-One, a certification program has been developed for RTI/STI which includes:

  1. Participation in the training sessions (RTI/STI, pap smear and wet-mount).
  2. Participation in the Quality Assurance training session including orientation to the Self Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) tool and Facility/Practice Assessment Tool (FAT).
  3. Achieving a minimum score (70%) on a knowledge post test about RTI/STIs and QA.
  4. Successfully completed a Statistics form, Self Assessment Questionnaire tool and action plan for at least one quarter.
  5. Have a total of achieved points that is equal or more of the passing score on a Facility/Practice Assessment Tool (FAT).
  6. Have met all items judged to be necessary or major on the Facility/Practice Assessment Tool (FAT). (These necessary or major items are known only to the assessor).

To date, PSP has awarded QA certifications to 287 doctors in FP, 160 doctors in CBE, 56 doctors in RTI/STI, and more doctors have applied to achieve certification.

A new document: “A Clinical Guide to Reproductive Tract Infections & Sexually Transmitted Infections for Private Physicians” is now available in English and will soon be available in Arabic.
