Alliances, Upstream and Downstream" encouraged discussion on the role partnerships play in the success of social marketing programs.

Under this umbrella ISM 2005 addressed the following topics:

  • How Partnerships Can Help with Upstream Issues Confronted by Social Marketers
  • Partnerships from the Downstream Perspective: The Role Strategic Alliances Play in Implementing Social Marketing Programs
  • A Look at the Challenges and Rewards of Partnering with the Private Sector to Achieve Social Marketing Objectives

USAID staff also participated, and facilitated a round table session on Monday from 11:15 - 1:15 entitled "Discussions on zinc deficiency in developing countries as a downstream issue". Participants broke into small groups to explore creating a Partnership Plan by assuming various roles of stakeholders in a hypothetical developing country setting. Two staff from PSP-One partner PSI attended this conference, and one staff member participated on the panel discussion concerning zinc.
