PSP-One Quality Assurance Experts Test QI Package with Midwives in Uganda

PSP-One Director of Quality Assurance, Dr. Mary Segall and Quality Assurance Advisor Leah Levin, traveled to Uganda from March 28-April 12, 2006 to finalize and test the feasibility of a quality improvement (QI) package for private sector midwives. The Ugandan Private Midwives Association (UPMA) and the Ugandan MoH through its Pubic/Private Partnership for Health Directorate (PPPH) provided the means to finalize the tool's content as well as test the feasibility and usefulness of the tool and supporting materials. These two objectives were accomplished through a series of four key group discussions, two orientation meetings and 10 visits to UPMA and PPPH midwives in two districts as well as with UPMA Regional Representatives and one PPPH Desk Officer from the Jinja district. Research is being conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the quality tool package.
