Dr. Mary Segall, PSP-One’s Quality Assurance Advisor, completed a trip to Uganda where she met with midwives associations in an effort to improve the quality of private sector reproductive health care in the country.

Dr. Segall conducted a donors’ meeting with the Uganda Private Midwives Association (UPMA) to develop action plans and establish the roles and responsibilities of each donor (PSP-One, Banking on Health, Capacity, UPHOLD, and Acquire). The meeting supported UPMA’s goal of achieving financial and technical sustainability.

While in Uganda, Dr. Segall also made contact with the director of the Public-Private Partnerships for Health (MOH) to develop a plan for linking with the UPMA and Uganda Nurses and Midwives Association to prepare and deploy nurses and midwives as Master Trainers for MOH providers in 10 strategic areas throughout the country.

Before returning home, Dr. Segall met with four councils and six professional associations to develop guidelines and procedures for standardizing and harmonizing the process of awarding continuing education credits for professional development.
